Diary of a Resurrectionist, Wednesday 4th December 1811

Wednesday 4th
At night went out and got 10, whole went to Green and got 4, Black Crib 1, Bunner Fields 5.

A busy night of resurrecting; 10 subjects in all.

The whole (whole party) at this point is probably Naples himself, Ben Crouch, Butler, Jack Harnett and Bill Harnett.

The Green is difficult to identify. James Blake Bailey suggested it was probably the ‘Green Churchyard ‘, an addition to the Churchyard of St. Giles, Cripplegate. However, he points out that several parishes called their churchyards, or portions or them, by this name. Isabella Holmes, however, though that it was likely to be another name for Bethnal Green, as the other ‘green churchyards’ were all in “somewhat populous districts”.

The ominiously named Black Crib, is unidentifable.

Bunner fields is Bunhill Fields in islington.

About theresurrectionists

My name is Kirsty Chilton. I am a Medical Historian working in London and relentlessly searching for the body snatchers of 18th and 19th century London. Currently, the content of this blog is a personal project to repost and comment on the diary of 19th century Resurrectionist Joseph Naples 200 years from the time it was written.
