Diary of a Resurrectionist, Tuesday 14th January 1812

Tuesday 14th
At 1 a.m. got up, Ben’n, Bill & me went to St. Luke’s, 2 adults; Jack, Dan’l Big Gates, 1 large & 1 small, took them to Barthol’w, Came home & went to St. Thomas’s, afterwards went to the other end of the town for orders. At home all night.

The party divided and Naples went to St Luke’s (Old Street) with Ben Crouch and Bill Harnett (an interesting mix, as Crouch and Bill Harnett didn’t like each other and Bill Harnett, when he was working independantly of Crouch often took naples as his companion, according to Bransby Cooper). They raised 2 adults.

Jack Harnett – Crouch’s friend – and Dan’l went to Big gates and raised one adult and one child.

The bodies were taken to St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Then later, Naples went to St Thomas’s and to the ‘other end of town’ (the west end schools like those of Bell, Brookes and Carpue and Wilson presumably) for their orders.

About theresurrectionists

My name is Kirsty Chilton. I am a Medical Historian working in London and relentlessly searching for the body snatchers of 18th and 19th century London. Currently, the content of this blog is a personal project to repost and comment on the diary of 19th century Resurrectionist Joseph Naples 200 years from the time it was written.
