Diary of a Resurrectionist Wednesday 22nd January 1812

Wednesday 22nd,
At 4 o’clock in the morning got up, Bill & me went to the Hospital Crib and 1 for Mr. Cooper’s Lectures, had a dispute with the party, at home all night. Ben got drunk.

Naples went to the Hospital crib (Snows Field) with Bill Harnett and got a subject for Astley Cooper’s lectures.

Bransby Cooper (nephew of Sir Astley) commented of Bill Harnett,

“He was a determined opponant to Crouch, whom he cordially hated; he would seldom work with him, but generally chose N as his companion…”
N is Naples, whose name Brandby disguises, as Naples was still alive at the time was the book was being finalised and maybe even as it was published.

The dispute with the party may have been related to this resurrecting for Mr Cooper, perhaps done away from the direction of the party. Crouch, Naples comments, got drunk.

English: Sir Astley P. Cooper, English surgeon...

About theresurrectionists

My name is Kirsty Chilton. I am a Medical Historian working in London and relentlessly searching for the body snatchers of 18th and 19th century London. Currently, the content of this blog is a personal project to repost and comment on the diary of 19th century Resurrectionist Joseph Naples 200 years from the time it was written.
